Steven Yeun Set to Ignite the Screen as Zuko in The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

The Legend of Aang Cast Steven Yeun as Zuko

The Avatar universe is zooming with excitement following a major casting reveal at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 via IGN. Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been eagerly awaiting details about the upcoming animated film, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and the creators have delivered a nice surprise: Steven Yeun will voice the iconic Fire Nation prince, Zuko.

  • Confirmed at SDCC 2025: During an interview with IGN’s Kim Horcher at San Diego Comic-Con, Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko shared that Steven Yeun, known for his roles in The Walking Dead and Invincible, will voice Zuko in the upcoming film. This revelation puts to rest months of speculation about Yeun’s role, which was first announced by Paramount Pictures in March 2025 without specifying his character.
  • A Shift from Expectations: Many fans assumed Yeun would reprise his role as Wan, the first Avatar, whom he voiced in The Legend of Korra. However, Konietzko clarified, “Steven Yeun was Avatar Wan… We loved working with him, and we’re excited to have him back in the universe” as the complex and beloved Zuko, a character known for his tumultuous journey from antagonist to hero.
  • Zuko’s Role in the Story: As the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko is a pivotal figure in the Avatar saga, known for his internal struggles and quest for redemption. The film, set years after the original series, will explore Zuko as an adult, offering a fresh perspective on his character in this new chapter of the Avatar universe.

Steven Yeun is well known for his voice acting skills now, with most of his recognition(voice acting) coming from the Invincible series where he plays Invincible. Fans love Yeun and they love Avatar: The Last Airbender, it will be great to see Steven in a new light(or should I say dark), in The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.
