Chris Evans Comments On Not Being In Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans Adresses Not Being In Avengers: Doomsday

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen its American knight in a shinning shield for many years now. Many have been wondering whether or not we will see Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Chris Evans, who has played Captain America for a very long time till recently where he passed the torch to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Still with Doomsday being such a giant film where multiple “OG’s” are returning, you could never really count Chris out of this film, till perhaps now. Recent comments from the actor himself have stirred both excitement and bittersweet emotions among Marvel enthusiasts. In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, Evans opened up about his absence from the star-studded Avengers: Doomsday cast, sharing a candid perspective on his MCU journey and what it feels like to miss out on the next big Marvel event.

Chris Evans, synonymous with Steve Rogers/Captain America, has been a cornerstone of the MCU since his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). After his character’s heartfelt farewell in Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Steve passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), fans have speculated about a potential return. Reports from late 2024, including one from The Wrap, suggested Evans might join Avengers: Doomsday alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and other MCU veterans. However, Evans recently set the record straight, and his comments reveal a mix of nostalgia and acceptance.

Here’s what Evans had to say about his rumored involvement in Avengers: Doomsday:

  • A Touch of Sadness: Evans admitted to feeling “sad to not be back” for the film, likening the experience to missing out on a party he wasn’t invited to. “I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party,” he shared. This raw honesty highlights his deep connection to the MCU and the camaraderie he built with the cast and crew over nearly a decade.
  • Ongoing Connections: Despite not being part of Avengers: Doomsday, Evans emphasized that he remains in close contact with key MCU figures, including directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Robert Downey Jr., and other stars. “I talk to the Russos, Downey, and other MCU stars all the time,” he noted, underscoring the enduring friendships forged during his Marvel tenure.
  • Support for the MCU’s Future: Evans expressed confidence in the Russo Brothers’ vision for Avengers: Doomsday, praising their ability to craft compelling stories. He also voiced excitement for his upcoming non-MCU project, Materialists, co-starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, signaling his focus on new creative ventures while still rooting for Marvel’s success.

This sounds very convincing that he will indeed not be in Avengers: Doomsday. On the other hand, Marvel is known for giving mixed signals to its fans and even have actors straight up lying at times or be deceptive in some way to not reveal any spoilers. Marvel purposely leaks spoilers, or addressors rumors every now and then. You really never know what is going to happen since any one can come back at anytime. If you know comics, you know no one is ever truly “retired” or dead. There is always a way to bring someone back, especially with all the multiversal elements we will see in Avengers: Doomsday.

As Avengers: Doomsday continues filming, the MCU is poised for a transformative chapter in its Multiverse Saga. The return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and the inclusion of legacy characters like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Peggy Carter signal a blend of nostalgia and a new beginning with the soft reboot after. Meanwhile, Evans is carving a new path with projects like Materialists, set for release on June 13, 2025, where he stars alongside Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, the latter also set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. Only time will tell if Chris really appears in Doomsday, and it may not even be as Captain America.
