Alan Cumming is back in blue, and this time, it’s hitting different. The beloved actor, known for his iconic portrayal of the teleporting mutant Nightcrawler in 2003’s X2, has recently wrapped up filming for the highly anticipated Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday. In an exclusive with People, Cumming shared how stepping back into the character’s shoes after all these years felt like a breath of fresh, yet familiar air, especially given the rough ride he had during the original production on X2. With the movie slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, fans are hyped about this reunion along with many other old X-Men returning for this Avengers film.
The Return
He describes his experience as “insane” to come back to the superhero fold with this character.
- A Nice Return:“I just came back. It was amazing. It was actually really… in a sort of ooey, gooey way, it was really healing and really nice to go back to something that it was a terrible experience when I did it the first time…” Alan Cumming
- Getting Shots Filmed Fast: Alan revealed that he had to do scenes rather quickly and that he had to ractice with the stuntman at 60 years of age.
- Avengers Doomsday Opinion: Alex describes Avengers Doomsday as “a great film” and that he is really excited to be a part of it.
Final Thoughts
Avengers Doomsday has so many icon actors/characters coming to the plate, with Alan’s Nightcrawler as a fan favorite. I’m glad to see him in the mixed of things and that we will hopefully get some great action out of him displaying his power like he did amazingly in X2. However, this time around it is something he looked forward to filming rather than his previous X-Men film because the makeup took a lot less time, and was more sticker based than actually painting tattoos on him. For now we all await his appearance and for many others, when Doomsday releases on December 18, 2026
