THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER IS GREAT AND "DOES NOT SUCK"

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

This Sunday I got the opportunity to attend the global press conference for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. A lot was said about the upcoming show that I will be breaking down and discussing in the following days but some outlets that were attending got called upon to ask some questions during the Q&A portion of the press conference. And lucky enough, I was one of those outlets called upon to ask a question.

With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier story being heavily based off of the great Steve Rogers' Captain America no longer being around, I had wondered what the MCU would now be like. Also, with Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff gone as well, Sam and Bucky were now some of the OG heroes and I wondered if they were going to be the leaders of the new heroes coming in. So, that's what I asked.

When called upon I stated that my question was for Kevin Feige, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. I then said Captain America is now gone, that is a huge impact on the MCU. So, what is that like? And since you are both now some of the oldest surviving Avengers, what responsibility do you feel in leading future heroes?

Sebastian Stan jokingly, but seriously, called upon Anthony to answer first. Anthony and the rest of the group laughed and then Anthony started first.

"Endgame was a monumental shift of the super hero universe," Mackie says. "The scope of that movie, the idea of that film, is something larger than I think anyone imagined. Our goal, and we've talked about this, I'll speak for Sebastian, was not to mess it up." The crew burst out in Laughter. Anthony Continued, "so, we didn't wanna be the first crappy Marvel project. Our job was to take the torch and not make a bad show. I'm very happy to say that Steve Rogers will be proud that our show does not suck."

Mackie Continued:

"I say all that to say our show does not suck and we are not the first crappy marvel project so the next show has a problem because if it's bad they're gonna be the first crappy marvel project in like 20 years."

Sebastian Stan then added "what are you saying about Loki?!" in which Mackie replied, "I don't know I don't know! I'm just saying, I'm just saying!"

Sebastian Stan then addressed my question after director Kari Skogland encouraged him to answer by saying "Come on Sebastian get yourself in trouble" and Anthony Mackie gave him a little harmless encouragement as well.

Sebastian then said"

"That question that you just asked is very much built into the arc of both of these characters, where they are at the top of the show, you know? And actually answering that question and exploring that question is very much their journey throughout the show. Who am I now? What do I have to contribute? 'That guy' did 'this' and 'this' so, what is gonna be my legacy? If I even want that? So, there's all these pieces to it that kind of are interesting rather than just coming out of the gate and saying you know, I have all the answers".

Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, then stepped in adding:

"Well, I will just end and say that we never would have attempted this or tried this or have been as excited to bring this series to Disney Plus if we didn't have unbelievable actors like Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan playing these characters and being able to bring them to life. And know that we can pile six hours on them and it'll work and they could go further. And obviously with Malcom and Kari bringing them to life in ways that are above and beyond. And not on this call Nate Moore and Zoie Nagelhout who brought in Malcom and Kari and who were there every single day, all making what this show is. Which is, as Anthony says, the show that doesn't suck".

I've only seen the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but if episode 1 is what the rest of the show is going to be like, the fans and audience will not be disappointed. And clearly, as you can tell by their responses to my question, they made a great effort to make this show truly great! Or, in Anthony Mackie's words the show "does not suck." And the thought process of the events that took place in Avengers Endgame and the aftermath that it caused, was truly well thought of and addressed in the show.

Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres this upcoming Friday, March 19th only on Disney Plus.
